About Us
Our mission, values, and story—working toward one human family under God.
"A world of peace begins with people who practice goodness, speak truth, and live for the sake of others."
DR. HAK JA HAN MOON
Our Mission
The Family Federation for World Peace and Unification exists to help build a peaceful world—not to establish a new religion. We support the growth of mature individuals who form healthy families, strengthen communities, and contribute to nations grounded in cooperation and mutual respect.
Our vision is one human family, where people of all faiths and backgrounds can live together in harmony as brothers and sisters, under the care of the one God who created heaven and earth—the Heavenly Parent of all humankind.
A more hopeful future for humanity depends, in large part, on renewing the family—the essential building block of society. Families shape children and form the character of future generations.
At the heart of a healthy family is a strong marriage. We work toward a world where people live in harmony within themselves, with their loved ones, in their communities, and with the world around them—a world marked by peace, freedom, love, and lasting happiness for all.
Our Vision
The Family Federation upholds values such as freedom, love, truth, unity, creativity, honesty, equality, altruism, and especially the importance of marriage and family.
Today, these values face growing pressure from materialism and a culture that normalizes free sex, weakening families—the foundation of a healthy society. We believe that strong families, not just individual rights, are essential for addressing issues like addiction, crime, and broken relationships.
Media and entertainment often use sexuality for profit, promoting attitudes that undermine emotional maturity and long-term commitment. We affirm that sexual intimacy belongs within marriage, where it supports genuine personal growth and lasting love.
At the heart of our tradition is living for the sake of others—serving and uplifting those around us. This spirit strengthens individuals, families, communities, and nations.
We also emphasize caring for the natural world. Humanity is called to protect the environment with love and responsibility, creating harmony between people and nature.
Meet out Founders
Rev. Sun Myung Moon (1920–2012) and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon dedicated their lives, from their marriage in 1960 onward, to building a world of peace, harmony, and lasting happiness.
Affectionately known as the Father and Mother of Peace, they championed strong marriages and healthy families as the foundation for a peaceful society, while advancing reconciliation across nations, cultures, and religions.
They taught that beyond nationality, race, and background, humanity is one family under God, our Heavenly Parent.
To support this vision, they founded numerous global organisations, including the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU), Universal Peace Federation (UPF), Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP), and the International Association of Youth and Students for Peace (IAYSP), among many others.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Family Federation the same as the “Unification Church”?
The Family Federation for World Peace and Unification began as the Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity. “Unification Church” is an informal nickname that the public and media widely adopted over time.
What relationship do you have with God?
We relate to God as our Creator and Heavenly Parent. Growing closer to God means aligning our heart and actions with selfless love—living for the sake of others and building unity within ourselves, in family life, and with our surroundings.
What are the core beliefs of Family Federation?
We believe God seeks a personal relationship with each person, and that the family is the cornerstone of spiritual growth and a healthy society. We learn about God’s love most deeply through relationships in the family.
What kind of view do you have of God?
We believe God is the Creator whose ideal centers on mature individuals, harmonious marriages and families with God at the center, and a humanity living in harmony with nature. We also teach that God encompasses both masculine and feminine and relates to us with a parental heart.
What kind of view do you have of human life?
We believe human beings were created by God for spiritual maturity and loving relationships. We understand people as both spirit and body; our earthly life shapes our character, and our spirit continues beyond death. Because sin and evil entered the world, we all need restoration and salvation.
Why does the movement emphasize marriage and family so strongly?
We believe marriage and family are central to God’s ideal and the foundation of healthy communities and a peaceful world. A faithful, God-centered marriage helps form families where love is learned and practiced in daily life.
What is the Marriage Blessing?
The Marriage Blessing is a sacred marriage covenant that calls couples to restore marriage and family life to God’s original ideal. Its purpose is not only personal happiness, but building a faithful, God-centered family that contributes to peace in the wider world.
Who is the current leader of Family Federation?
Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon is the current worldwide leader of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification. She is the wife of the late Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon and resides in South Korea.
Do you have special rules to live by?
We focus on guiding principles rather than many rules. We teach sexual purity—saving sex for marriage and practicing faithfulness within marriage—and encourage avoiding harmful influences like drugs and pornography. More broadly, we emphasize service and living for the sake of others.
Why does the “Unification Church” hold mass weddings?
Mass wedding ceremonies are part of the Holy Marriage Blessing. They emphasize that marriage can be a public commitment to love one’s spouse, place God at the center, and contribute to peace—often bringing people together across cultures and generations.
Why do I need spiritual insight?
Because your deepest self is spiritual and continues beyond physical life. Spiritual insight helps you understand spiritual reality, grow in inner maturity, and live with greater purpose, conscience, and love.
Do Unificationists believe in the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth?
Yes. We believe God’s ideal can be realized on earth as individuals and families connect with God’s love and practice true love. As people choose goodness over selfishness, society can increasingly reflect the peace and harmony of God’s kingdom.
What is a Unificationist?
A Unificationist is a person of faith who seeks to build a better world by practicing God-centered family life and living for the sake of others. Unificationists come from many backgrounds and participate in communities and initiatives that support peace, strong families, and cooperation across divisions.
Is the “Unification Church” a cult?
No. The Family Federation is a legally registered religious nonprofit organization. Like many new religious movements, it grew quickly and was sometimes labeled a “cult” by critics. Our mission is to promote peace and unity by building strong families and a world that can live as one family under God.
How is the Family Federation organized and what do members do?
Families and local communities meet for worship, prayer, study, fellowship, education for children and youth, and service to the wider community. We also work with people of all faith traditions who share a commitment to strengthening families and building peace.
Does the “Unification Church” brainwash people?
No. People do not lose free will through a “brainwashing” technique. Individuals explore the movement, attend programs, and make personal decisions—many choose not to join, and some who join later choose to leave. We encourage people to evaluate any faith community by clear standards such as freedom of choice, openness to questions, and personal responsibility.
Is the “Unification Church” that gun church?
No. You may be thinking of the World Peace and Sanctuary Church (Rod of Iron Ministries), founded by Sean Moon. That group is not affiliated with the Family Federation, and the organizations have been publicly separated. The Family Federation does not use weapons in religious ceremonies and opposes violence.
What is your view of nature?
We see nature as God’s creation and a gift entrusted to humanity. We are meant to live in harmony with the natural world and care for it responsibly. Environmental care is part of our calling as stewards of creation.
